Horse Training

Individual and group lessons with Carlos are based on Classical and ranch horse foundations, to develop a calm, forward, reliable and safe horse regardless of the horse discipline chosen.

You never get a second chance to make a good impression, so it’s important to start building confidence early! We use our trust-based training to give young horses – and older horses – the best start in their career. With foals, yearlings and two-year-olds, we concentrate on establishing a strong foundation for saddle work. Carlos does not start horses before the age of three (and sometimes older, depending on breed and development).

This work is a vital part of a horse’s education, and it’s essential that it’s done properly. Many foals no longer have the benefit of growing up in a herd, so we must help them learn such things as yielding, giving to pressure, respecting space and establishing leadership. As they get older, we work on groundwork skills, tying up, trailer loading, long lining and yielding from another horse. When it comes time to introduce the saddle and rider, a strong foundation already exists, making the process non-threatening for the horse.
